In February, Team Bioco announced SWUB VIII for June 27, 2026 in Alcorcón, Madrid, Spain. 25 athletes had been announced since.

The edition was set up around the return of two former champions: Antonio Gastelum and Daniel Hristov. Hristov, sidelined from the last two editions by injuries, had said in a recent video that he was coming back to win once more before retiring. He wanted to finish on a win. Gastelum, for his part, has said in a recent video that his competitive career is ending.

On May 25, Hristov announced his withdrawal in an Instagram post. He injured his AC joint and supraspinatus tendon during the short preparation window. He will attend the event but not compete, and plans to return next year. Gastelum, the two-time defending champion (VI and VII), is still entered. SWUB VIII may be his last event.

On June 4, Team Bioco closed the men’s bracket with the announcement of Yair Drory (Israel), competing for the second time. The final bracket holds 24 athletes. Diego (@diegoo.bars) and David García Brugos (@david.brugos) came through the Spanish qualifying stage. The day before, on June 3, the organization introduced Hriday Gandhi (@hridaygandhi_v2), the first Indian athlete to compete at SWUB.

The women’s bracket filled out across June. Aina Moreno (Spain, June 6) and Alisia Persa (Romania, June 8) joined Maya Silva (Chile) and Veronika (Russia, on the podium last year). Then came Aroa Sánchez (Spain, June 9), Léa Depagneux (France, June 10), Blanca Almoh (Spain, 2023 champion, June 11), Aspen Vincent (United States, June 12), Celia (Spain, June 13), Jane (Hong Kong, June 14), Jess St John (Canada, June 15), and Estefany Villamizar (Colombia, 2022 champion, June 16). Twelve women were confirmed by June 16.

On June 8, SWUB VIII was officially presented at the Polideportivo Municipal Los Cantos, backed by the Alcorcón city hall and Deportes Alcorcón. Doors open at 10:30 AM and the show starts at 12:00 PM.

On June 16, the organization detailed the judging system: each battle is scored across four fields (Statics, Power Moves, Dynamics, Combinations) by four judges. Gorletic, the official sponsor, released a limited-edition Gorletic × SWUB pair of parallettes, and Kratos joined the partners.

On June 17, Team Bioco announced three changes to the lineup over visa issues and injury. Ilay Bardugo (Israel), Miamber (Spain) and Yavira (Bolivia) join the edition. The organization did not name the athletes who pulled out, but the updated bracket no longer lists Julián Martinez Mazzei (Argentina), Radoslav Radev (Bulgaria) or Ayaz Zhahanger (Kazakhstan). Revised matchups are said to be coming.

In the final week, Team Bioco confirmed Creapure as an official sponsor (June 21) and posted the presentation of the edition’s four judges (June 22), through a daily countdown to June 27.
